Minimum Wage Increase to $11/HR Will Be On November Ballot

The people of Arkansas will vote this November on whether to increase the minimum wage up to $11.00 per hour (by 2021). A initiated act to raise the minimum wage received over 84,000 signatures and has been certified to be placed on the November ballot. They needed just under 68,000.

The raise would be incremental with a final $11 per hour minimum wage in Arkansas by January 1, 2021. The current minimum wage in Arkansas is $8.50 per hour, the highest in the region. The highest state minimum wage in the U.S. is currently $11.50 per hour in Washington.

  1. I’m going to add as much cost-saving automation if wages get bumped that high. There should be a training wage period to make sure an employee can perform the job before they are eligible for wages like this. Let me ask all of you if you would hire an unproven employee at wages like that? It would be cheaper to offer $12/hour or more for proven experience rather than taking a chance on a newbie. This is bad socialist policy.

  2. An employer who wants to retain someone will pay them what they are worth. People don’t realize that the employer is not going to absorb this. You are at the cash register and you will actually have less because the state is going to take their cut out of it and when all is said and done, you will end up with less. Comparing Washington state to this state is not comparable. Their taxes on everything is much higher and they have a much higher cost of living. The surrounding states are less and people will be border jumping to get the lower prices more so than they do now because of the high sales tax.
