Arkansas Bill Would Remove Regulations on Hair-Braiding

House Bill 1642 would remove the mandate requiring hair-braiders to have a natural hair braiding certificate.

Currently in Arkansas, hair-braiders must pay $30 to the state every two years and provide a signed affidavit stating they have two years of practice in hair braiding. In addition, an employee or customer signed affidavit swearing witness must be provided.

If coming from out of state, the hair-braider must pass a test to be able to braid natural hair in Arkansas.

This bill will allow greater economic freedom for a person to engage in natural hair braiding without a costly and cumbersome government permission slip.

House Bill 1642 was filed as a partisan bill by State Rep. Les Warren, a Republican from Hot Springs.
