Legislation Moves to Increase Arkansas Speed Limits

Legislation by Republican lawmakers is Arkansas would increase the speed limit an additional 5 miles per hour on state highways. In controlled access highways outside of urban area, the speed limit would increase to 75 miles an hour and in urban areas, to 65 miles per hour.

House Bill 1631 has passed a senate committee today (Monday, March 18) and now will be voted on by the State Senate. House Bill 1631 passed the Arkansas House by 83-2, with 14 abstentions.

HB1631 was proposed by State Rep. DeAnn Vaught. She is a Republican from Horatio.

This legislation has faced reported pressure from the Arkansas State Police as well as the Arkansas Trucking Association.
