There is a $6,000 reward for information regarding the fatal shooting of a female bald eagle in Arkansas. The body of the eagle was found in Drew County in Southeastern Arkansas.
Arkansas Game and Fish Commission found the body near a nest that they believe she was tending to.
The bald eagle is the national symbol of the United States and was removed from the endangered list in 2007. Since that time, the bald eagle has been protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Lacey Act.
Potentially, the criminal could face a $250,000 fine and 2 years in prison.
As a migratory bird, the bald eagle has been known to nest in Arkansas. There are believed to be over 100 nesting pairs of bald eagles, a number that can double during winter when the birds migrate south.
