The battle over Arkansas Term Limits is heating up quickly. According to filings with the Arkansas Ethics Commission, Arkansas Chamber of Commerce CEO Randy Zook has formed a ballot committee to oppose Issue 3 of 2018. This was first reported by Michael Wickline of the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. Issue 3 of 2018 is a proposed constitutional amendment that would strengthen Arkansas term limits. Under the initiative a Representative may serve three 2-year terms and a Senator may serve two 4-year terms. It would cap legislative service at a total of 10 years.
Named “Arkansans for Common Sense Term Limits” their stated purpose is “. . . [to] advocate for the disqualification or defeat of the state legislative term limits initiative.”
Issue 3 of 2014 extended term limits to 16 total years for legislators which could be served in either chamber. That measure created a “citizens commission” that doubled the salary of legislators while ending other expense items. That measure passed 53%-47% in November 2014.
The Chamber of Commerce is supported mostly by funding from firms wealthy enough to hire lobbyists to use legislators as pawns to enrich themselves at the expense of taxpayers. SCUMBAGS
