AG Rutledge Intervenes in Shutdown of Two Coal Plants

After Entergy and environmental groups agreed to shut down two of the oldest coal plants in Arkansas, Attorney General Leslie Rutledge has asked the Arkansas Public Service Commission to review the agreement and the court to intervene.

The agreement is between Entergy Arkansas, the Sierra Club, and the National Parks Conservation Association. The plants are located near Redfield and Batesville.

Rutledge has made the argument that the shutdown could affect rates and service for Arkansans. In addition to reaching out to the Arkansas Public Service Commission, Rutledge has filed a petition with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas to intervene, arguing that the agreement should be reviewed first.
