Confederate Star to Remain in Arkansas Flag

Legislators rejected a measure which would have changed the meaning of the Confederate star in the Arkansas flag to honor the legacy of Native Americans.

The measure was defeated on Wednesday. The Arkansas flag has four blue stars, with different commemorative meanings for each star. The star honoring the Confederate States of America was added in 1923.

The other three stars represent France, Spain, and the United States — all countries which have held control over Arkansas at one point in time.
