House Bill 1928 would require that audio or video recordings be made of all public meetings and be kept for at least one year. If this measure were to pass, these recordings would become subject to the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act.
This bill would increase transparency and provide a more honest and open government.
The Arkansas Freedom of Information Act is one of the most comprehensive and strongest open-records and open-meetings laws in the country. FOIA allows access to public records and meetings. Under FOIA currently, governing bodies may only enter into closed sessions for the purpose of considering employment, appointment, promotion, demotion, disciplining or resignation of an individual officer or employee.
