Arkansas State Senate Sworn In – Leadership Selected

The 94th General Assembly Arkansas State Senate was sworn in on Monday, January 9, 2023, and selected their leadership positions for the session. The session will run for the next two years, with the regular legislative session lasting for at least the next 90 days.

Senator Bart Hester was elected, by acclimation, and sworn in as the President of the Senate. In his speech, he said education, tax cuts, and prison reforms were at the top of the list for the focus of the session. Hester said the debate to overcome challenges in these areas was now open.

After Hester’s speech, the rest of the State Senate was sworn in, joined by family members. The leadership for the session was announced as follows:

Majority Leader: Senator Blake Johnson

Majority Whip: Senator Ricky Hill

Minority Leader: Senator Greg Leding

Minority Whip: Senator Linda Chesterfield
