Washington County Republicans Push for Broader School Choice in Property Tax Allocation
The Washington County Republican Committee (WCRC) has adopted a resolution calling on Arkansas legislators to expand school choice options by allowing all property taxpayers to direct their tax contributions to educational institutions that match their personal values.
The resolution emphasizes equitable access to tax dollars for education. It highlights the existing LEARNS Act, which enables parents of school-age children to use property tax proceeds for alternatives like private or homeschool education. The committee argues that this benefit should extend beyond parents to include all taxpayers.
“Whereas all property taxpayers should be able to support educational institutional choices consistent with their values with their property tax,” the resolution states. It resolves to “ask our Arkansas legislators to enact measures to ensure that all property taxpayers are afforded equitable access to direct their tax contributions toward educational institutions that align with their values and educational preferences.”
