Rep. Kendon Underwood (R–Cave Springs) is running for a fourth term in House District 16 against a Democratic challenger. He told Conduit News that being named the Democratic Party’s “least favorite legislator” is “a badge of honor.” He contrasted his record with his opponent’s on taxes, on immigration, including his push to defund Fayetteville over its sanctuary city policy, and on the Second Amendment, where he holds an A rating from the NRA.
If re-elected, Underwood said, his top priority in 2027 is cutting the income tax further, so Arkansas can keep pace with neighboring states that are at or near zero. He said the Legislature too often “kicks the can down the road” on tax relief while finding money to spend, pointing to the state’s $300 million “super-project”. He also plans to bring back bills ending taxes on overtime and bonuses, and he expects property tax relief to be a major focus next session.
His message to discouraged Republicans: “They certainly do not need to sit out.”
