In 2015, the City of Paragould approved a resolution opting the city out of all political primaries, thereby making it so all candidates would run as independents.
Many Paragould residents said this took away freedom of choice for candidates as well as voters. Over 1,500 signatures were collected to place an amendment on the November 2022 ballot: Paragould Partisan Election Amendment. This municipal election amendment passed with over 56% Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
