AR State Senator Discusses SHS Appointments, Session Priorities

Arkansas State Senator Dan Sullivan (R – Jonesboro) joins Conduit News to discuss the upcoming legislative session. Sullivan says he is excited about our new governor-elect, the most recent appointments, as well as the energy that is in the Arkansas State Senate right now.

“She (Governor-elect Sanders) fulfills her promises. What she says she’s going to do, she’s done and I think there will be really good things happen with early education and workforce education. I think they’ve got good plans for all of those areas, and I look forward to hearing those plans as they roll out,” says Sullivan.

Sullivan also discusses legislation he intends to file at the beginning of session that deals with pornography and sexually-explicit materials in public libraries.

“As some of your viewers know, in the state of Arkansas, public school librarians and public librarians in your local public library, currently are exempt from pornography law. They are the arbiter of what counts, what doesn’t count as pornography. And they are the arbiter about where that shows up in the library.

I have legislation that I’ll be filing probably the first of the session that brings public librarians and private librarians into the same form as the regular citizens and they will now be subject to the laws of pornography. I can’t imagine why we would have a law that exempts anybody from distributing pornography to children. I think that’s big legislation.”

Parent groups like Moms for Liberty are making headway across the nation as they advocate for school freedom (Watch: Parent Groups Making a Difference; Superintendents’ Grip Loosening on Legislators).

Sullivan says the local Moms for Liberty – Craighead County Chapter is holding a meeting Thursday, January 5th that is open to the public. Sullivan says the the topic will be about education and the upcoming legislative session, but they will also discuss the local library and taxes.
