Recommended Reading for 2026 

Understanding Christ and His work: 

1.  Behold My Servant: Sermons on Isaiah 52:13-53:12 by John Calvin, which includes seven of the sermons written and preached by Calvin to his Genevan congregation in July 1558 (what is effectively the clearest Old Testament articulation of the Christian gospel). These sermons are translated from their original French by Robert White and published by Banner of Truth in 2025.  

2.  The Finished Work of Christ: The Truth of Romans 1-8 by Francis A. Schaeffer, taught to his students seeking answers to hard questions in 1960 in Switzerland, first published in 1998. 

Encouragement to Christians Today: 

3.  The Christian Racea compilation of thirty-four sermons by J.C. Ryle published in 1900, the year of his retirement and death, as a memorial of his sixty years in ministry in England. 

4.  Learning to Love the Psalms by W. Robert Godfrey, written and published in 2017—gives us a greater understanding and love for these sacred poems—the prayer and hymn book of the Savior and first eighteen centuries of the church. 

The Future: 

5.  The Revelation of Jesus Christ, a commentary by John F. Walvoord published in 1966 recognizes Revelation’s symbolic features but points out that much of it can be interpreted literally, defending the premillennial position but at crucial points considers other views—allegorical and historical, and the amillennial and postmillennial approaches.  

6.  Daniel: The Key to Prophetic Revelation, a commentary by John F. Walvoord and companion to The Revelation of Jesus Christ, published in 1971, presents the beauties of Daniel’s prophecies in light of modern archaeological evidence. 

7.  The Glory of Heaven– The Truth about Heaven, Angels, and Eternal Life by John MacArthur, written and published in 1996 (and experienced personally by the author July 25, 2025.)  

Biographies: 

8.  The Life of Elijah by A.W. Pink, written sometime between 1930 and 1952. 

9.  The Puritans: Their Origins and Successors by D. M. Lloyd-Jones, written between 1959 – 1978. 

10. Oliver Cromwell by Theodore Roosevelt written while he was serving as President of the United States in 1903 

11. The Life of Arthur W. Pink by Iain H. Murray, published in 1981 

12. John MacArthur –Servant of the Word and Flock by Iain H. Murray, written and published in 2011-John MacArthur died this year on July 14, 2025.
