Governor Pushing Legislation for Mask Mandate

by Conduit For Action

After a year of state mask mandates the Arkansas legislature said enough is enough. The legislature passed Act 1002 of 2021 to prohibit the state or any political subdivision of the state from mandating the wearing of masks. The legislation became law on April 28, 2021.

Just three months later, Governor Asa Hutchinson is pushing the legislature to come back in special session and reverse course. He wants to allow school districts to mandate masks. Perhaps he wants more mandates as well.

Hutchinson claims allowing school districts to impose mask mandates is the conservative thing to do.

If turning decisions over to school districts is the conservative thing to do then why hasn’t he proposed abolishing the Arkansas Department of Education and turning over to school boards all decisions on how to run schools and what curriculum to teach. He hasn’t proposed that because when he says it is the conservative thing to do, he is just using buzz words … anything to bring back his mask mandates. Maybe bringing back his business shutdowns will be next.

Let’s be realistic. If Governor Hutchinson gets his way, the liberal Arkansas Education Association will mercilessly hound your local school board members until your school board gives up and passes the mask mandate.

Will your state Senator and state Representative reverse themselves at the snap of Governor Hutchinson’s fingers… yet again?

If you want to be heard on this issue, tell your legislators now because Governor Hutchinson is already putting the squeeze on the state Senators and Representatives who voted to stop mask mandates.
