The Washington Free Beacon’s Aaron Sibarium recently joined Conduit News to share his reporting on how Walmart pushed Arkansas public schools to adopt diversity, equity, and inclusion training sessions for teachers. “What the report essentially shows is that a very large, powerful corporation is laundering its ideology as a kind of noblesse oblige,” says Sibarium.
Sibarium’s report revealed that one of the Walmart-approved teacher trainings pointed to “perfectionism,” “a sense of urgency,” and “worship of the written word” as examples of “white supremacy culture.” It also championed racial preferences as a way to correct white people’s “400 years of affirmative action.”
Sibarium explains how The Fayetteville Public School District incorporated the 5 Year Equity Plan into teacher training, and what that involved. “In Fayetteville, in some ways, it was more extreme to get this 5 Year Equity Plan that was funded by Walmart and the Walton Foundation. That equity plan literally involved teacher trainings where they said, we’re going to teach you about the six tenets of Critical Race Theory and how to apply them in the classroom. That’s a direct quote from the training…
You always hear people say, ‘Well, is Critical Race Theory literally being taught in schools?’ Well, it is literally being taught in teacher trainings,” explains Sibarium. “They are using the words Critical Race Theory and going through the six major tenets of that philosophical doctrine…. it’s hard to get more brazen than that.”
