FOIA Expert: HB1003 is not about the security of our governor

Robert Steinbuch, attorney and member of the Arkansas FOIA Task Force, joins Conduit News to walk viewers through the four sections of HB1003, an act to amend the Freedom of Information Act of 1967. Governor Sanders, sponsors, and supporters of this piece of legislation say the primary reason for this urgent need to change our FOI law is for the safety and security of the Governor and her family.

Steinbuch says everyone agrees that the safety and security of the governor should be a top priority, but that’s not what this bill is about. “The sections about the governor’s security are just fine. But there are three other parts, and they’re highly problematic and have nothing to do with the governor’s security. If anybody tells you they do, they are gaslighting you.”
