Community leaders in health care and higher education met to discuss eliminating tobacco use in Arkansas. Discussions involved state intervention methods to reduce tobacco use in Arkansas, looking ahead to the next legislative session.

A spokesperson for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network stated that the intention is to introduce legislation which would restrict the legal age to purchase tobacco across the state.

The adult smoking rate in Arkansas ranks third in the nation, according to the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. In addition, Arkansas leads the nation with the second highest smoking-related cancer deaths.
