Rep. David Ray on Upcoming Special Session

AR State Representative David Ray (R – Maumelle) explains why the state legislature is having a special session in August and what he would like to see accomplished. “The reason that we’re having this legislative special session or that it looks like we will have it is because of the $1.62 billion surplus. So because of that, I think it makes the most sense to keep this focused on fiscal matters, particularly related to tax cuts and tax relief.”

“You’re going to hear a lot from the other side that wants to oppose tax cuts. They do this every time they have this sort of specious argument that goes something like, ‘well, we can’t cut taxes because we have problem A or problem B out there.’ The problem with that argument is if throwing more government money at those hypothetical problems would actually solve them, then those problems would have been solved a long time ago.

The folks that oppose cutting taxes, they never have any intention of saying yes to lower taxes. They believe that government knows best how to spend your money, that you earn even better than you know. And I simply subscribe to the simple belief that individuals and families know best how to spend their hard-earned money,” says Representative Ray.
