The Arkansas Supreme Court struck down a Fayetteville discrimination law on gender identity bias. The measure violates a state law, which regulates discrimination laws in Arkansas counties and municipalities to maintain consistency across the state.
It is illegal to discriminate against a person for his or her gender in Arkansas currently. The Fayetteville ordinance sought to make it illegal to discriminate against a person for gender identity or sexual orientation.
In addition to maintaining consistency, the ruling protects the religious freedom for churches and other religious organizations.
